Food Politics in the European Union is a two week summer course where you study the politics and policies of food issues in Europe. The course provides an overview of the key themes that drive the food politics agenda such as environmental pollution, overfishing, animal welfare, health and obesity, food security and food safety.
WHY YOU SHOULD TAKE THIS COURSE:
Unique combination of the study of food and politics: this is the only course that provides a comprehensive overview of the major food issues with an analysis of the way national and EU law and politics can address these.
Taught by a wide range of food politics experts: such as dr. Herman Lelieveldt (University College Roosevelt), prof. Dr. Jale Tosun (University of Heidelberg), dr Jeroen Candel (Wageningen University), dr Tetty Havinga (Radboud University Nijmegen) and dr. Iskander de Bruycker (University of Antwerp).
Excursions connect theory with practice: to find out how food politics works out in practice we make a day long excursion to farms in Zeeland and one to the EU institutions in Brussels. We also make an early morning excursion to the Vlissingen Fish auction.
Excellent evaluations: Previous editions of these course have scored a 9 on a scale from 1-10. Students mention 'the quality and variety of the classes and trips', 'inspiring guest lecturers' and 'coherence of the program' as strong points.
