The focus area Human-centered Artificial Intelligence organises a screening of the sci-fi romance movie Her, followed by a debate.
Her is a 2013 science-fiction romance film directed by Spike Jonze about a lonely writer, Theodore (Joaquin Phoenix), who develops a romantic relationship with an artificially intelligent operating system named Samantha (voiced by Scarlett Johansson).
The film explores themes of love, loneliness, and human connection in the digital age, raising questions about intimacy, consciousness, and the impact of technology on our lives.
Thought-provoking panel discussion
Right after the screening, there will be a thought-provoking panel discussion featuring experts on human-centered AI. They will unpack the film’s themes such as human‑AI intimacy, loneliness in a hyper‑connected world and digital isolation, real‑world parallels and questions about gender, voice, and embodiment.
The panel discussing this film with the audience consists of HAI members Baptist Liefooghe and Mehdi Dastani. The discussion will be chaired by Jan Broersen.
Stick around after the panel discussion for drinks with snacks and informal conversation. It is a great opportunity to meet fellow attendees, share your thoughts, and unwind.
