Faculty Club - September Club Evening: French Night

The summer holidays are over – but we’re staying in a French mood for a little while longer! On Thursday 3 September, we’ll celebrate the start of the academic year with a cosy French evening. Enjoy moules-frites, summer cocktails, live music by Pierre et les Optimistes, and a game of pétanque.

The Club Evening is the perfect place to make new connections in a relaxed atmosphere, meet colleagues and former fellow students, and stay up to date with developments in research and education in Utrecht. Guests are very welcome.

The evening is free to attend. Would you like to join us for dinner? Please reserve your moules-frites in advance.

A touch of Provence at the Faculty Club!

During our French evening, a game of pétanque is, of course, a must. This classic French sport combines skill and strategy with conviviality and relaxation. With a drink in hand, you can experience the typical French atmosphere of a Provençal village square – right here at the Faculty Club.

Programma:  

• 5:00 – 7:00 PM: Happy Hour with live music by Pierre et les Optimistes and a pétanque clinic (walk-in)
• 6:30 – 6:50 PM: The Story of Pétanque: From Provençal village square to serious sport
• 7:15/7:30 – 9:00 PM: September Dinner Special – Moules & Frites (by reservation)
• 9:00 PM – End of the evening

Location: Faculty Club, entrance via the University Hall (Domplein 29, Utrecht)

Moules & frites

During this Club Evening, we will be serving moules-frites: delicious fresh mussels with crispy fries, perfectly paired with a good glass of wine, beer, or a soft drink. Bring a guest, join us at the table, and enjoy a delicious evening together at the Faculty Club.

Praktische informatie

The moules-frites is optional and costs €17.50 per person (by reservation). The Club will provide the snacks, and drinks can be ordered at the bar throughout the evening. During Happy Hour, drinks are half price.

Over Petanque

Did you know that pétanque (French: pétanque, Occitan: petanca) is the Provençal version of jeu de boules? Jeu de boules includes all games that are played with metal balls. Pétanque requires little or no equipment or infrastructure; it is simple in design, and the emphasis is on skill rather than physical strength. The difference from the most common jeu de boules balls is that the pétanque ball is larger and consists of two halves welded together.
