Exploring better care after a complicated neonatal period
In a time of budget cuts and staff shortages, how do we improve follow-up care for children at risk of developmental problems? This question is the focus of the mini-symposium ‘Together on the road to better care after a complicated neonatal period’ on the occasion of Corline Parmentier's doctoral research.
A growing body of research shows that preterm birth and problems around birth can lead to long-term consequences for motor, cognition and behaviour, among other things. This highlights the need for better monitoring of these children to initiate appropriate support in time.At the same time, we face financial and practical challenges: staff shortages, a high administrative burden and pressure on care due to an ageing population. And isn't there already enough going on in the world to worry about?
Improving care requires creativity and cooperation. And with this in mind, on 27 May, we are organising a mini-symposium for healthcare providers and researchers involved in the follow-up care of children with a complicated neonatal period. We will discuss what we know and do not yet know about the possible long-term consequences, the outcomes that are important from the perspective of parents and children, and ways to improve follow-up care through interdisciplinary collaboration.
