Event: The Hungary Presidency of the EU

to

For the second half of 2024, Hungary is presiding over the Council of the European Union. The EU platform of the strategic theme 'Institutions for Open Societies' invites you to jointly reflect on this Presidency and meet up with colleagues interested in the EU.

Dr. Kati Cseres, Associate Professor of Law at the Amsterdam Centre for European Law & Governance (UvA) will discuss the Hungarian priorities for the presidency and how this presidency could be harmful for the EU. This includes themes such as the New Competitiveness Deal and matters related to Defense, a topic that reached the headlines soon after the start of the presidency. In July 2024, Kati visited the EP to talk about the upcoming New Competitiveness Deal (and wrote this paper for the occasion) . See also her connected publication about Hungarian (Illiberal) Imaginaries of Consumers.

After the lecture we will enjoy Hungarian drinks and snacks.
