Don't be held back. Have a sustainable blast at GROUNDED Festival
Have you ever felt concerned about the environmental impact of the traditional party scene? GROUNDED Festival on Saturday Jun 29th is looking to create a whole new kind of festival. Get your tickets here.
What is the problem?
After a typical street party, whether it’s King’s Day, right after the Utrecht Canal Pride, or on the grounds of a music festival, the ground will often be covered in litter, especially single-use plastic cups. While this litter will be cleaned up, the amount of junk that will be thrown into another landfill is highly problematic, to say the least. This captures how our way of entertaining ourselves and letting loose has more far-reaching consequences than we would like to think. Luckily, with more awareness, comes the conception that there needs to be an alternative, and the start of new initiatives by those who feel concerned!
What is the alternative?
GROUNDED festival – happening on Saturday June 29th between 11:00 and 23:00 - was designed precisely with this intention, as a community of sustainable students felt guilty for the harm that the party scene can cause. GROUNDED celebrates all the beautiful uses and luxuries that come from the ground we would otherwise pollute, whether it be food, culture, or sound. The festival will offer the same range of activities, DJs, drinks, and chances to let yourself go as any other festival, but with an added emphasis on sustainable sourcing and damage reduction.
Come be a part of this awesome new initiative and let yourself enjoy a day of great vibes and partying, while rejoicing in the fact that you don’t have to be held back by your sustainable conscience.
The Green Office's role
It is with pleasure that Green Office Utrecht will be supporting this initiative for truly harmless fun. We will be hosting a clothing swap during the event, where people can bring their clothes and/or pick-up some second-hand ones that are still in great condition but simply need a new owner to appreciate them. Check out our article if you would like to know more about the difference that second-hand shopping makes compared to buying new items! Additionally, we will be organizing six 15-minute workshops, split between a set of workshops teaching people how to sew and fix their own clothes, alongside a set of workshops teaching people how to make their own DIY cleaning and bathing products.
Green Office Utrecht (GOU) is Utrecht University’s central sustainability hub where fresh minds and hands come together to support Utrecht University’s sustainable development. Green Office Utrecht makes the university’s policy tangible in the everyday reality of its students and staff members by informing them, involving them and empowering them to act. Green Office Utrecht is active on four themes: Food, Biodiversity, Mobility and Circularity.
