As you approach the final phase of your PhD, you may be considering your next steps. This one‑hour online session offers the opportunity to speak with GSLS alumni who are currently working abroad as postdocs in Europe. The session is built around an open conversation, allowing you to hear directly about their experiences, choices, practical insights, and honest reflections.

Hear firsthand how the GSLS alumni transitioned from PhD to a postdoc position, why they chose to work abroad, how their PhD skills relate to their current roles, and what everyday life as an international postdoc looks like. If you are exploring international career options, this session offers a clear and realistic look at postdoc life outside the Netherlands.

Linde Dekker

Linde completed her PhD in Immunology & Infection (2020–2025) at the Princess Máxima Center and is now a postdoctoral researcher at the Children’s Hospital Zurich, Switzerland. In her postdoc, she leads her own immunology project, combining lab work, computational analysis, project management, student supervision, and grant writing. She enjoyed the freedom, deep scientific exploration, clinical connection, and interdisciplinary collaboration during her PhD. Her current role closely mirrors her PhD in skills, environment, and flexibility, though it required developing a new research topic from the ground up.

Ravi Teja Ravi

Ravi completed his PhD in Molecular Life Sciences (2025) at the Bijvoet Center and is now a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Cryo‑Electron Tomography at the Rosalind Franklin Institute, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom. He studies host–pathogen interactions, including HIV‑1 maturation and the infection cycle of Chlamydia trachomatis. During his PhD, he enjoyed tackling technically challenging structural‑biology questions, developing new in situ approaches, and working in Utrecht’s strong interdisciplinary environment. His postdoc resembles his PhD in techniques, collaboration, and research style, though it requires greater independence and creative problem‑solving.

All PhD candidates & Postdocs of the Graduate School of Life Sciences are welcome to join the online conversation with GSLS alumni. Attendance is free of charge, registration is required. Once you have signed up, we expect you to attend.

  • GSLS PhD-candidates can register via our course portal.
    After login to our course portal go to 'Events' in the menu on the left and sign up.

  • GSLS Postdocs can register by sending an email to pcc@uu.nl.
