Conference: 'FOR CRYIN' OUT LOUD: Music and Politics'

Gaudeamus Muziekweek 2015

The research group Musicology will be hosting a conference in cooporation with Gaudeamus Muziekweek. The two-day conference is titled 'FOR CRYIN' OUT LOUD: Music and Politics', and will feature speakers from different international universities.

For Cryin' Out Loud

Is contemporary music less deeply rooted in society, is it less reflective, or non-ethical? The conference 'FOR CRYIN’ OUT LOUD: Music & Politics' addresses these issues from a broad perspective, ranging from Dutch composed music of the sixties and Provo to the usage of music as propaganda.

Music and Society

Music has always been inextricably bound up with society. However, composers and musicians - particularly those working within the field of contemporary classical music - have been accused of losing contact with society. Their political commitment, and involvement with society, seem to be more and more disconnected. These, and other issues, will be discussed during the conference.
