Can students still question information critically in a world full of AI and disinformation?

to

Maarten van der Smagt (Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences) presents his research into one of today's most pressing educational questions.

In an era of mis- and disinformation via social media and GenAI, developing genuine critical thinking skills is more important than ever. Maarten’s research focuses on developing a tool to assess how critically students can question an avatar—such as an influencer or psychologist—about real-world issues. His research relates data from students’ interactions with these avatars to questionnaire measures of critical thinking. In this session, Maarten aims to present the initial findings from the pilot study.
