Book launch: The Visual Memory of Protest

What is the role of photography in the memory-activism nexus? As part of theĀ Remembering Activism project, Professor in Comparative Literature Ann Rigney and researcher Thomas Smits went in search of an answer. It resulted in the book The Visual Memory of Protest, which will be launched in an online gathering on Thursday 21 September.
Visual memory
Social movements are not only remembered in personal experience, but also through cultural carriers that shape how later movements see themselves and are seen by others. Rigney and Smits present new empirical, theoretical, and methodological insights into the visual memory of protest. Robert Hariman (Northwestern University) and Aidan McGarry (Loughborough University) respond.
