On 19 february the next Utrecht Cultural History Seminar will take place. Dr Ingeborg van Vugt (Cultural History) will present her book proposal: The balance-keeper - Antonio Magliabechi and the Republic of Letters

Van Vugt is currently working on a book proposal to publish her book within the Stanford University Press's Text Technologies series. The book, tentatively titled The Balance-Keeper: Antonio Magliabechi and the Republic of Letters, combines methods for network analysis for distant reading of large sets of letters with close reading of archival sources to throw new light on the circulation of knowledge and the management of relationships in the dispersed ‘community’ of scholars referred to as the Republic of Letters.

Antonio Magliabechi

In particular, Van Vugt will introduce the key role of the seventeenth-century librarian Antonio Magliabechi (1633-1714) for creating stability and equilibrium within the early modern scholarly network.
