Town and gown

The city and Utrecht University are traditionally very close. The historical, but at the same time young and dynamic city of Utrecht surrounds the university like an oyster surrounds a pearl: offering an environment in which the university can grow. In return, the university gives the city a lively student population, beautiful university buildings, top knowledge and highly-educated professionals.

Utrecht University is active all over the world, but considers the bond with the city to be equally important. This bond is continuously maintained in many joint projects. For instance  with living labs regarding energy, food, ageing healthily, youth and extremism, and ‘city life’. This is how the university and  the city work together to build a healthy, sustainable and harmonious society.

The university and the city work together to build a healthy, sustainable and harmonious society.
