Become a Mentor or Peer Leader

We are looking for approachable people who are willing to help, can follow the program and keep track of logistics, are open and excited to meeting new students, and who want to help facilitate meaningful connections among peers. You don’t need any prior experience or have all the answers, as we will prepare you in our trainings. Also, sometimes saying ‘let’s find out together’ is enough to make others feel welcome. It is important that you’re available for the whole Welcome Week. In return, you can attend all activities (and more) for free. 

• Building your leadership skills in a fun and relaxed setting
• Meeting like-minded students, UU staff, and the UU Welcome Week Team
• Receiving leadership and event training
• Joining a week full of activities
• Gaining valuable skills for your CV
• Helping others (and yourself) further settle in 

Each group will have approximately 20 students, guided by at least one mentor and one peer leader. We aim to have diverse mentor groups.

We will pair you with a mentor or peer leader (depends on your own role) and assign both of you to a group. Together, you can already get in touch with your mentor group (e.g. by creating a group chat). Additionally, you will follow a few trainings and social events to prepare you for the role and to help you meet other mentors and peer leaders. Please note: although we strongly prefer that you attend at least trainings (in person), you can always contact us to discuss other possibilities for preparing adequately in case you cannot make them.

You can always sign up as a crew volunteer for one or multiple shifts, in case you cannot be there the full week. However, if you do prefer being a mentor, please contact us via email to discuss the possibilities!
