Reserved housing Plaza Master's

This page only details information on reserved accommodation with housing provider Plaza. Visit the respective Xior and SSH pages for more information on their reserved UU housing and application process.

Rent and other costs

Monthly rent
The monthly rent for the private studios reserved for new, international Master's degree students is 609 euros excluding, and 822 euros including mandatory service costs and utilities.

Rent allowance
If you are 23 years or older in 2025* and meet the other individual requirements, you are eligible for the government subsidy called rent allowance. If you are eligible for rent allowance, you are entitled to a monthly payment to help pay rent. Read more about rent allowance on our housing budget page.
*In 2026, the age limit will be reduced to 21 years and older.

Booking costs
When you reserve a studio, Plaza will ask you to complete the following payments via bank transfer within 24 hours:

  • 1218 euro deposit
  • First rent payment
  • 15 euro administrative fee

Rental period

Housing via the UU Reserved Accommodation Programme for degree students is exclusively available for a fixed rental period of 12 months. Most Plaza contracts start early August 2025 and end early August 2026.

Important:

  • As you agree to a fixed, 12 month rental period, you cannot cancel the lease prematurely, nor can you extend your contract. If you are looking for housing for a shorter rental period than 12 months, you are not eligible for this type of accommodation.
  • The rental period does not necessarily cover a full academic year. Your programme may plan educational activities before the start of your lease or after the rental period ends.
  • Tenants are responsible for the rental payments for the full tenancy period; Plaza cannot defer a reservation to a later moment, and you are responsible for paying the rent per the starting date of the contract.

Cancellation prior to the start of the agreement

Cancellation of the Plaza rental agreement is only possible if your cancellation request is submitted to info.nl@plazaresidentservices.com before 11 July 2025. If your cancellation request is submitted correctly and on time, you will receive a refund of your deposit.

Shared facilities and good tenancy

The Campus030 Limapad building offers a lounge area, a coffee corner, and a media/game room. You can also find laundry facilities in the building and a study area. Note that good tenancy is expected in the common areas with regard to nuisance and cleanliness. Read more about what is expected of tenants in the Netherlands.

How to apply

Registration opens on 7 May 2025; booking for Master's degree students is on 21 May 2025 10.00h Central European Summer Time (10 a.m. Dutch time).

Step 1: Register an account
Prior to booking, you need to register a UU student Plaza account via the registration link specifically designed for Plaza reserved accommodation (this link will be posted here on 7 May 2025). Within two business days after registering, you will receive an email from Plaza asking you to activate your account. Once you activate your account, you can see your username and set a password.

Important:

  • Register before 20 May 2025, 23.00h CEST (11 p.m. Utrecht time). If you register after this time, Plaza cannot guarantee that they can create your account in time before booking starts.
  • Make sure to register using the UU registration link (posted above). If you register via the regular Plaza website, you will not receive access to the reserved accommodation part of the UU Reserved Accommodation Programme.
  • If you already have a regular (paid) Plaza account, you still need to register a 'UU' Plaza account through the UU registration link if you want to access the UU Reserved Accommodation Plaza offers. However, you will need to use a different email address for your 'UU' Plaza account than the one you used for your regular Plaza account. Make sure to keep your log in details separate, so you do not log into the wrong account on 21 May.

Step 2: Upload documents
Once you have activated your Plaza account, you can view the offers that will be available to you and you will have to upload the following documents to your account:
►   A copy or photo of your passport or ID
►   A copy or photo of your debit card from your current bank
►   Your letter of (un)conditional admission to Utrecht University
Other documents than the above are not required.

Step 3: Book
Warning: although you are allowed to register with every housing provider in the programme, it is not permitted to book more than one room/studio. If you have successfully applied for accommodation, you are no longer eligible for another with any of the housing providers in the programme. Each booking is verified by UU; if you have more than one booking, all but one will be cancelled. Which bookings are cancelled is random. Any costs or advanced payments will not be reimbursed by the housing provider.

On 21 May 2025 10.00h Central European Summer Time, make sure you are logged into your UU Plaza account on the Plaza website. Select an accommodation labelled Master and submit a reservation request. Remember: offers are on first come, first-served basis and booking is not guaranteed. Also, offers labelled with a red house in the top right corner are reserved for a different student group or educational institution. You cannot book these offers.

If you have successfully submitted a reservation request and have not yet uploaded your documents, you now have one hour to upload them to avoid automatic cancellation of your reservation.

Step 4: Wait for verification
Plaza will now verify your eligibility with Utrecht University. Note that this may take a few days. You can check the conditions for eligibility yourself on the main page.

Step 5: Make payments and sign contract
Once your eligibility has been verified, Plaza will send you the (digital) contract and a first payment request. To complete your booking, you must return a signed contract and proof of bank transfer (print screen) within 24 hours. If you miss this deadline, your reservation is cancelled.
