High Five Long Stay Accommodation

The information on this page is for international degree students new to the Netherlands who are planning to enrol per September 2026.

Dutch universities do not own student housing and students themselves are responsible for finding accommodation. Utrecht University has, however, reserved accommodation for new international UU students with different housing providers throughout Utrecht. 

One of our providers, SSH, has recently completed a new building on Utrecht Science Park: The High Five. International degree students new to the Netherlands in a multiple-year programme can apply for an unfurnished, unupholstered studio for the full duration of their studies. In order to apply, students must meet the set conditions. Please note that availability is limited and allocation is via a lottery. In short, securing Long Stay housing is not guaranteed.

Conditions international degree students

In order to apply, you must meet all of the following conditions:

• You will be a first year, international UU degree student in September 2026;

• You plan to enrol in a Bachelor's degree programme or a 2- or 3-year Master's degree programme;

• Your programme is in English. Exception: students who require a visa and/or residence permit can apply for reserved accommodation even if their programme is (partly) taught in Dutch;

• You are new to the Netherlands: you have not lived and/or studied in the Netherlands before and you currently live abroad.

High Five Accommodation

The High Five Long Stay studios for international multiple-year degree students are located at the Utrecht Science Park campus. The private studios include their own kitchen and bathroom facilities. All units are unfurnished and unupholstered, meaning that residents are responsible for providing their own furniture, flooring, and curtains. The rental contracts will start per August 2026 (exact start dates are still unknown, and will be determined by SSH). SSH Long Stay offers campus contracts, meaning you can rent a studio for as long as you are a student. 

Rent and other costs

Monthly rent, including service costs
Exact pricing is still being determined. It is currently estimated at around 900 euros per month including utilities. 

Rent allowance
If you are 18 years or older and meet the other individual requirements, you are eligible for rent allowance, a monthly payment to help you pay rent. Read more about rent allowance on our housing budget page.

Booking costs
Registration fee: 35 euros (after you have secure a spot through the lottery)
First month's rent (when you accept the contract)

When and how to apply

Update July 2026:

Waitlist sign-up:
More units are expected to become available at High Five. Any newly available units will now be allocated through the High Five waitlist. If you would like to be considered, please join the waitlist by submitting the High Five Waitlist Form.

Waitlist allocation:
Available units will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, according to the date and time of your registration. If you are not contacted, it means your position on the waitlist was not high enough to be offered a room at that time. If additional units become available, you may be contacted at a later stage.
 

Lottery Sign-up is now closed. Please refer to the July update for information on how to apply to the waiting list. 

Step 1. Sign up for the lottery
In order to take part in the High Five Long Stay lottery, you need to sign up for the lottery via the sign up form between 12 May 2026 and 19 May 2026, 9.00h CEST (9.00 am Dutch time).

Step 2. UU determines eligibility
After lottery sign-up closes, based on the programme's conditions, UU determines whether you are eligible to participate in the lottery. Please note that eligibility outcomes will be communicated by email at the same time as the lottery results. As such, you will not be informed prior to the lottery draw on 19 May 2026. Step 3. Lottery draw 
On 19 May 2026, the lottery draw will take place. After the draw, on that same date, students will be informed if they got selected in the lottery.

Step 4. Next steps
After completing the previous steps, SSH and UU will contact you with the necessary instructions regarding completing your booking.
