Chinese nationals

This information is for students who hold a passport of mainland China, with country code CHN. If you have a Hong Kong or Taiwan passport this does not apply to you.

Payment

The deadline for payment is before June 15th.
For the residence permit application, you will receive an invoice for:

  • Visa/residence permit application fee
  • Your tuition fee (for the first academic year)
  • Financial means for living expenses (for the first academic year)

The IND charges a fee for every visa/residence permit application. The application fee for a visa/residence permit for study purposes is currently € 171.

For the visa and residence permit application, it is a requirement that you can financially support yourself during your stay in the Netherlands. Taking into account average housing costs and living expenses, the IND has set a minimum monthly amount students will need for this. This minimum amount is € 900 a month.

The IND does not accept Certificates of Deposit as proof of financial means for Chinese students. Instead, you will have to transfer the financial means for the first twelve months of your stay to us in advance. This means an amount of 12 x € 900 = €10800 . The transfer of this amount will cover your proof of financial means.

This amount for the living expenses will be kept in your name until your arrival in The Netherlands. Once you have arrived, you will need to open a Dutch bank account, so that we can refund your financial means.

The invoice will be sent to the email address you entered in your Studielink account. The invoice can only be paid by bank transfer. We must receive the exact amount stated on the invoice, so any costs associated with the transfer must be covered by you. Payment information is included in the invoice.

if you have applied for more than one Bachelor or Master's programme, please check if you have received the invoice for the correct programme. If not, please contact us at visa@uu.nl.

  • If the amount of your scholarship does not cover the full tuition fee, you will need to pay the invoice in advance yourself.
  • Utrecht Excellence Scholarship:

If your Utrecht Excellence Scholarship covers at least the tuition fees, you do not have to pay the tuition fees in advance: we will use your scholarship to cover your tuition fees.
