Utrecht University reserves a limited number of furnished studios with property management organisation Holland2Stay. The studios have a high-end finish and are located in two buildings in popular districts of Utrecht.
Flying Deer (Single person studios)
The Flying Deer building offers modern spacious studios with private bathroom, television and kitchen facilities. You can reach the city centre by bike in 15 minutes, and it is easily accessible with public transport. The building offers trendy communal areas free to use as a resident, such as a gym, sauna, and roof terrace. This accommodation is especially suited for degree students who wish to have private facilities but still share social spaces that provide opportunity to meet with the other tenants. If you are 23 or older and meet the individual requirements, the accommodation in the Flying Deer with a basic rent price below 720,42 euros are eligible for rent allowance.
Keramus (Single person studios)
The new and beautifully designed Keramus building is situated by the waterfront in the popular Rotsoord district. It is especially suited for degree students who aim to live comfortably near the university and the city buzz. Keramus is ideally located near the City Centre and the and Utrecht Science Park is a mere 15 minute bike or bus ride away. Restaurants, cafés and shops and several supermarkets at walking distance as well as Utrecht’s vibrant city centre. All the studios in the Keramus building are stylishly furnished and have a private bathroom and kitchen. The Keramus building offers inhouse laundry facilities, three roof terraces and secured bicycle storage for the residents. If you are 23 or older and meet the individual requirements, the accommodation in the Keramus building is eligible for rent allowance.
Nijenoord (Single person studios)
The Nijenoord building is situated in the Ondiep district, just north of the Utrecht's City Centre. Restaurants, cafés and shops and several supermarkets are within walking distance and you can cycle to Utrecht's Dom Tower in under 10 minutes. All the studios in the Nijenoord building are fully furnished and have a kitchen, television and an ensuite bathroom with a washing machine. The Nijenoord building offers a roof terrace and secured bicycle storage for the residents. If you are 23 or older and meet the individual requirements, the accommodation in the Nijenoord building with a basic rent price below 720,42 euros is eligible for rent allowance.
Who can apply
In order to apply you need to be eligible for the Reserved Accommodation Programme. Holland2Stay housing is available for new international students who enrol in the first year of an English taught Master’s or Bachelor’s degree programme per September 2019. Holland2Stay housing is exclusively available for a fixed rental period of 12 months for the first year of studies.
When to apply
You can submit a booking request from 21 May 2019 9.00 AM Central European Summer Time (CEST) onwards. Before this date and time booking for the accommodation per August 2019 is not yet possible.
Booking for Master's and Bachelor's degree students opened 21 May 2019 9.00 CEST. Bear in mind that it is unlikely for Holland2Stay to have additional offers, and cancellations are rare. Make sure to also consider other housing options!
- Register an account on the Website of Holland2Stay. The registration fee is 23,50 euros (non-refundable)
- Follow the special Holland2Stay link for eligible international UU degree students (the available offers will apear on 21 May 9.00 CEST). The reserved accommodation is only available via the special Holland2Stay link, not on the general Holland2Stay website.
- Select an available studio apartment in the Nijenoord, Keramus or Flying Deer building. As documented proof regarding your enrolment please upload our e-mail to you about your conditional admission. When you apply for a studio you pay a booking fee of 175 euros (see FAQ on refund policy)
- Holland2Stay will verify your eligibility with Utrecht University. Note that this may take some time!
- Once your application has been verified you can finalise your reservation by digitally signing the contract and by making the following payments: the deposit as advertised and the first month's rent
Types of accommodation
Holland2Stay offers single person studio apartments that are fully furnished. All studios have fast internet (wifi), a private kitchen and a private bathroom. You can find more photos and information on the Utrecht page of Holland2Stay. Nijenoord, the Keramus and Flying Deer buildings offer laundry facilities, roof terrace(s) and secured bicycle storage. The Flying Deer building also offers a sauna and communal gym.
The rent of Holland2Stay studios are approximately 730 - 870 euros including mandatory utilities per month. If the basic rent is eligible and if you meet the requirements you can benefit from a cost reduction of up to 350 euros per month (see Rent allowance).
If you are 23 years or older, meet the other individual requirements, and if the basic rent is below 720,42 euros, the accommodation in Keramus, Nijenoord and Flying Deer buildings is eligible for the government regulated scheme called rent allowance. This means that you can benefit from a cost reduction of up to 350 euros off your monthly net rent. Holland2Stay can help you apply for housing allowance. The reserved accommodation via Holland2Stay is only available for a fixed rental period of twelve months, from August 2019 to August 2020.
Keramus: The residence is situation next to the Vaartsche Rijn train station and has excellent bus connections to Utrecht Science Park De Uithof. Shops, supermarkets, cafés and restaurants are nearby. Follow this link for the location on Google Maps.
Flying Deer: The residence is also closely situated to Park Transwijk and a shopping centre. There is a good connection to public transportation, and it is only 15 minutes cycling distance from Utrecht Central station and the city centre. Follow this link for the location on Google Maps.

Does Holland2Stay offer accommodation to couples or families?
No, the accommodation is not suitable for couples, house sharing, children or families.
Can I rent Holland2Stay accommodation for longer or shorter?
This is not possible. Reserved Holland2Stay accommodation is only available for a fixed rental period of 12 months. If you are looking for accommodation for a shorter time frame, for example because you are planning to conduct research or do an internship abroad, it is not possible to book this accommodation.
Is the booking fee refunded if Utrecht University determines I am ineligible?
The 23,50 euro registration fee is non-refundable. If Utrecht University determines that you are ineligible for reserved accommodation via Holland2Stay you will be refunded the 175 euro booking fee minus the 35 euro administration fee. To avoid this, make sure to check beforehand if you are eligible for this type of accommodation. New international students who do not yet live in the Netherlands and have applied for the first year of an English taught Master's or Bachelor's degree programme and looking to rent for 12 months, can apply. Do I receive a refund if I cancel my reservation with Holland2Stay prior to my arrival?
If you cancel your reservation within 48 hours you will be refunded the booking fee minus the 35 euro administration fee. If you cancel your reservation 48 hours after you applied for the studio you will not be refunded the booking fee. What if I am not able to book via the Reserved Accommodation Programme?
Because the number of reserved accommodation is limited, most students have to search on their own. This can be difficult and time-consuming but the right preparation can increase your chances.
