Masterclass Responsible Conduct of Research for PhD Supervisors at UMC Utrecht

• Participants are more aware of and can better internalize RCR principles and values.
• Participants are more aware of the current day challenges and the ethical implications of technological advancements in RCR.
• Participants are more aware of the institutional RCR policies and support structures.
• Participants have increased resilience towards pressures that challenge RCR.
• Participants are more confident in discussing RCR topics and integrity issues among peers, with their supervisees, and within their professional environments.
• Participants are better equipped to recognize and effectively respond to integrity breaches in daily research practices.
• Participants actively foster a culture of RCR in their institute, by modeling RCR principles in their daily supervision practices and their professional environment.

1. E-modules (1.5 h): open three weeks before the in person workshop and deliberation session
   a) Promoting a Responsible Conduct of Research culture 
   b) Modern Challenges in Responsible Conduct of Research 
   c) Integrity Dilemmas in Responsible Conduct of Research
2. In person interactive workshop with all participants (1.5 h), directly followed by
3. In person integrity case deliberation session in groups of 8 participants (1.5 h)

In the interactive workshop, participants will discuss different examples encountered in the different aspects of RCR, either enforcing or challenging RCR. During the Integrity Case Deliberation sessions, participants in groups of 8 are asked to reflect on their own cases and/or experiences, either current or from the past, in a structured way using the UU RCR reflection model.

• The interactive workshop will be moderated by senior experienced educators with expertise in different fields of scientific research and familiar with the current standards in, and current developments in RCR. 
• The integrity case deliberation session are moderated by experienced educators with expertise in scientific research, research values and case deliberation.

Total of 4.5 h: e-modules: 1.5 h, interactive workshop 1.5 h, and integrity Case Deliberation 1.5 h.

This masterclass is free for UMC Utrecht (co-)supervisors of GSLS PhD candidates. However: free of charge does not mean free of responsibility. Once you have signed up for a course, we expect you to attend. For every late cancellation or no-show we have had to disappoint others who would have liked to attend. This is our policy:

• You may cancel free of charge up to 4 weeks before the start of the course. After this date you can only cancel if you have a (co-)supervisor of a GSLS PhD candidate to replace you in the course. Send the name and contact information of your replacement to pcc@uu.nl, at least 2 working days before the start of the course;
• We expect that you actively attend the full course.
• Not meeting the above requirements means you will be charged a no-show fee (€ 50). We will send the invoice after the course has ended. We are unable to make any exceptions, unless you have a valid reason (i.e., illness or death in the family 1^st/2^nd degree or partner). Please send an e-mail to pcc@uu.nl indicating the reason.
