Supervisor of the Year Awards
Supervision is one of the key factors in the success of any PhD journey. PhD surveys show that a professional relationship between PhD candidates and supervisors is essential. At GSLS, we support building strong collaborations through clear communication, managing expectations, and exchanging feedback.
To encourage high-quality supervision, the GSLS PhD Council SOY committee hosts an annual event featuring the Supervisor of the Year (promotor) and Co-Supervisor of the Year (copromotor) awards. PhD candidates nominate their (co)promotors based on qualities like scientific excellence, enthusiasm, and accessibility. Winners are announced during a festive award ceremony. All GSLS PhD candidates and supervisors are warmly invited. The event shares valuable insights and best practices.

PhD Supervisor Survey
In May 2023 the first survey was held among supervisors of PhD candidates of the Utrecht University Graduate School of Life Sciences. In essence two questions were asked: what goes well and what needs improvement. We received 319 complete responses. A summary can be found below.
