The MATHEMATICS DAYS are annual events for pupils in primary and secondary education, held at their own schools and organised by the Freudenthal Institute. Through these activities, we aim to promote numeracy and mathematics skills for all pupils.
Math days for secondary school students
The Mathematics Days are annual mathematics events for pupils in secondary education. All events focus on skills such as problem-solving, modelling, reasoning, arguing and working collaboratively in teams.
For all mathematics events under the Mathematics Days umbrella, pupils work in teams for a full day on a substantial mathematical task, with the final product being a written piece or a short film. Collaboration and effective division of tasks are of great importance. Pupils are challenged to think about their team strategy and engage with problem-solving skills, modelling, representing and reasoning. The tasks are designed to stimulate creativity and an investigative attitude amongst pupils and are therefore excellent for use as practical assignments or mathematical thinking activities.
Big Mathematics Day - for primary education
The Big Mathematics Day is a day for pupils in primary education. During the Big Mathematics Day, primary school pupils (Groups 1-8) work for a day within their own class on that year's numeracy-mathematics theme.
