Learning Plaza
The Learning Plaza in the Minneart building is a large, open space (capacity 150p) that combined formal and informal education. Alongside an educational activity, remaining seats could be used for independent study.
The experiential lay-out of the room aimed to answer the following research questions:
- How do formal and informal education coexists alongside each other?
- How does the lay-out of a room can be iteratively improved whilst in use?
- How does the room create a sense of belonging, ownership and workplace readiness for its users?
The Learning Plaza adapted in several evaluation phases. The variation in furniture, whiteboards and wheeled tables and chairs, enabled quick adaptation to a diverse range of education activities and group sizes.
What I also like is that other students can use the space at the same time—it’s not reserved exclusively for the course. That makes it a bit more informal, too.
