Completed Experiments
Future Learning Spaces are tested, put into use, refined, and iteratively improved over a period of three years.
After three years of use, FLS concludes the experiment and draws conclusions for the entire physical learning environment. Based on an integrated evaluation (user experiences, didactic added value, needs, technology, and management), Future Learning Spaces brings together all findings in a recommendation for possible scaling up, further development, or adjustment of existing standards. It may also be decided to add a concept (or parts of it) to the standard housing portfolio of the Housing Department.
FLS allows room for experimentation and failure. Not every experiment is a complete success, nor does it need to be.
Completed Experiments

Virtual Classroom
This experiment explored how a space could be designed in which the didactic principles of “stimulating interaction, diversifying learning activities, and student-centered education” can be realized during online education.

Mobile Hybrid Set
With this innovative mobile hybrid set, students can actively participate in education from any location. This offers inclusive opportunities for, among other things, fieldwork and excursions.

Hybrid Active Learning Space
This experiment explored how we could design a space in which various forms of interaction are possible for groups of students located both on site and at a distance.

Spaces embedded as part of the standard room portfolio
In January 2024, the Active Learning Space was transferred to Utrecht University’s Housing Department. This means that, following a successful evaluation cycle, this type of space has been deemed suitable for inclusion as a standard in the University of Utrecht’s portfolio of standard teaching spaces.
