Reserved Accommodation Programme for Exchange students (February 2024)

Booking for Exchange  started on 7 November at 9.00am. If no offers appear available in the booking portal you would not be informed if an offer becomes available again due to a cancellation. For this, you would have to check the SSH booking portal regularly.

Utrecht University offers a Reserved Accommodation Programme for new international UU students who meet the requirements. Through this programme new international students can apply for a limited number of furnished rooms and studios. Offers are on first come first serve basis. Finding housing this way is not guaranteed.

Conditions (Exchange students)

  • Offers are limited

    Placing a reservation is not guaranteed. Because the run for housing is high, also anticipate that you might not be able to book and explore other ways to find housing before booking opens.

  • Rental periods are fixed

    The agreements have fixed start and end dates. It is not possible to rent longer or shorter or cancel the agreement prematurely. 

     

  • 5 months only

    Erasmus / Exchange students who start their studies in February can apply for one semester (5 months) only.

Conditions for Erasmus Exchange students
  • You plan to enrol as an Erasmus or Exchange student per February 2024 for one full semester (5 months) 
    and;
  • You are new to the Netherlands and currently live abroad

You require an approved registration prior to the start of booking. Booking is on first come, first served basis and not guaranteed.

Housing provider: SSH Short Stay

For Exchange students, the UU Reserved Accommodation Programme offers furnished rooms and studios via housing provider SSH Short Stay. Because the housing is not owned by Utrecht University, contracts are between the tenant and the housing provider.

  • Types of housing

    SSH Short Stay offers furnished shared and private rooms in various residence buildings. The accommodations include all the basic furniture you need such as a bed, wardrobe, desk and chair. The accommodation is situated in international student residences. All accommodations have internet provided. 

  • Shared facilities and good tenancy

    With the exception of private studios, tenants share facilities like the bathroom, kitchen and washing machine with the other housemates. Like in all common areas, good tenancy is expected in regard of nuisance and cleanliness. Read more about what is expected of tenants in the Netherlands.  

  • Locations

    The accommodation reserved via SSH Short Stay is located in various locations in Utrecht. All SSH' residence buildings are situated within travelling distance from the various university buildings and Utrecht's City Centre. All buildings and room types are a popular choice for different reasons. To increase your booking chances, we advise you not to fixate on one or two locations when booking opens, but to consider all options. 

  • Rental period

    The housing for Spring Semester Exchange students is available for fixed rental periods of 5 months: 1 February 2024 - 2 July 2024. It is not possible to terminate the contract or to extend your stay. Tenants are responsible for the rental payments of the full tenancy period. Note that SSH' rental periods do not necessarily cover a full semester. Educational activities may be planned before or after the rental period.

  • Private room with shared facilities 529 to 668 euros

  • Private studio with private facilities 706 to 870 euros
