How do I increase my chances of booking SSH Short Stay accommodation?
The accommodation is rented out on a first come, first served basis. Once registration and booking opens you are advised not to postpone this to a later time. It is very important that you register only once and for the correct department/ faculty and resident type. If your registration is incorrect do not register again but log into your account and change the registration. It is important that you do not register for a different semester or school. All of this will delay your housing registration and will decrease your chances of successfully booking accommodation once booking opens. Also take into account that the servers will be busy when booking opens. Still, even if you keep to the dates and registered correctly, there is a chance that you will not be able to book a room. Take this in mind and also explore alternative options beforehand.
Where can I find the status of my registration?
Registration opens on 1 May 2018. You need a correct registration in order to book on the booking date that applies to you. You can check the status of your registration if you log into your SSH Short Stay account and select My Information / Change Personal Information / My Registrations.
- Status 'For Approval': your registration still needs to be checked by your Faculty of Studies
- Status 'Approved': Your registration has been checked by your Faculty of Studies and is correct. You will receive a message from SSH with more information and the booking date that applies to you
- Status 'Not Approved': Your registration has been checked by your faculty and is incorrect. You will receive an e-mail with more information on why your registration has not been approved
Do I receive a refund if I cancel my reservation with SSH Short Stay?
The down payment is only partially refundable, and only when you are not accepted by Utrecht University to the programme you have applied for. The reservation fee is non-refundable. Can I rent SSH Short Stay accommodation for longer or shorter?
This is not possible. SSH Short Stay accommodation is only available for fixed rental periods and only for the first year of studies. If you are looking for accommodation for a shorter time frame, for example because you are planning to conduct research or do an internship abroad, it is not possible to book this accommodation.
Does SSH Short Stay offer accommodation to couples or families?
SSH Short Stay does not offer accommodation for students who bring their spouse, partner or family. If you are looking for accommodation that is suitable for a family, please read our tips and tricks that can help you find accommodation on your own.
Can I register as an Erasmus/Exchange student if I was unable to book as a Degree student?
The accommodation for Erasmus/Exchange students is not available to Degree students and vice versa. If you register as an Erasmus/Exchange student but are actually a Bachelor's or Master's Degree Student, your registration will not be approved.
What if I am not able to book via the Reserved Accommodation Programme?
Because the number of reserved accommodations is limited, most students have to search for a room on their own.
