SSH Long Stay
SSH is the largest student housing foundation in Utrecht. Aside from SSH Short Stay, which offers temporary, furnished housing for internationals, SSH also offers Long Stay housing to Dutch and International students between the ages 16 and 27. Visit the SSH website where they explain how it works. You can also find more information on housing for students with a disability on the SSH website.
Waiting time
The waiting time for SSH Long Stay ranges from 35 to 40 months, depending on the time of the year and the popularity of the location, making SSH Long Stay unsuitable for exchange students. For more information, please watch this video by SSH.
Attending a viewing
Some accommodations are allocated based on registration time alone. However, for many shared accommodations, the top ten candidates with the longest registration time are invited to do a (group) viewing. After all candidates have viewed the room, the current tenants decide who will be the best fit for their house. This process is called hospiteren in Dutch.
SSH Long Stay registration via Room.nl
In order to find housing with SSH Long Stay, you need to register with Room.nl, the national platform for all Dutch non-profit student housing providers. When you register with Room.nl, you register with all Dutch non-profit student housing providers at once. This is beneficial, for example when you decide to do a master's degree in a different Dutch city later on. For more information about Room.nl, visit the English Room.nl website.
