Knowledge clips

Knowledge clips allow you to add more depth to your education. For example by having students prepare the material at home with the help of a knowledge clip and a related assignment. That provides more time during face-to-face contact (seminars, labs, lectures) for questions and in-depth discussion, because no time is ‘lost’ repeating the material offered via the knowledge clips. This is also referred to as the ‘Flipped Classroom’.

You can also use knowledge clips for courses that the students find difficult, like Statistics. Offering knowledge clips with extra explanations of various basic concepts in statistics or extra exercise materials allows students to use them to study the material, so they don’t have to keep asking for an explanation in class.

You can use knowledge clips to give instructions for difficult assignments or the correct use of specific equipment. For example, Geosciences has produced knowledge clips explaining how to use tools like a core sample drill. Students can then watch the clips in preparation for conducting field work.

You can also use knowledge clips to replace lectures or parts of lectures. That way, the students can study the material at home, at a moment that is most convenient for them. You can also link each knowledge clip to assignments to help the students actively process the material right away, rather than passively watching the lecture. Another way to enrich your course/lecture is to add a knowledge clip by an expert or guest speaker.

You can choose to use knowledge clips as part of an e-module. Many e-modules use learning clips to transfer knowledge to the students. Offering a learning activity immediately following the knowledge clip allows students to process the knowledge and practice using it. That is an easy way to make the knowledge clip part of a series of interconnected learning activities.
