Types of educational research

To further develop and innovate the teaching you provide to your students, there are various forms of educational research. These differ in terms of how they are conducted, who carries them out, and why. Utrecht University (UU) strives to be as evidence-informed as possible when designing teaching and innovations. We do this by researching our teaching.

• Research into higher education is an interdisciplinary research theme in which higher education is the object of study.
• Research into one’s own teaching is carried out by lecturers who study their own teaching practice and/or teaching strategy.
• Research into teaching within a discipline focuses on teaching within a single specific academic discipline.
