Tropical & Butterfly greenhouses

Utrecht University Botanic Gardens are set to receive a new greenhouse complex. The Botanic Gardens, including the Greenhouses, form a living research and teaching site for Utrecht University. New greenhouses are essential to continue vital research into biodiversity and other topics, and to preserve the tropical plant collection from Central and South America.

Greenhouses are closed

The Tropical greenhouses as well as the Butterfly greenhouse will be closed for a longer period, and shall be demolished in 2026. Right after closure of the greenhouses, on 1 December 2025, the preparations for moving the enormous plants. Both for the plants and the still living butterflies and frogs suitable (temporary) housing is available.
