Guided tour of Fort Hoofddijk

The Botanic Gardens are located on and around Fort Hoofddijk: one of the works of the Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie and Unesco World Heritage Site. This Sunday, there will two (short) tours of the Fort exclusively for our Friends. One tour will start at 11.00 AM and the second at 12.00 PM. Please note the tour will be in Dutch. Lecture: 'Plants as protection against evil'

Isabela Pombo Geertsma is an ethnobotanist who studies how plants are used by humans. As part of the QBD research group at Utrecht University—affiliated with the Botanic Gardens—she is conducting doctoral research into associations between plants and witchcraft in Western Europe, both past and present. During this evening, she will tell us more about how plants are used in the Netherlands as protection against evil.
