Accessibility
The Botanic Gardens are accessible for wheelchair users and pushchairs, with the exception of parts of the Rock garden. A wheelchair accessible toilet is available in the Entrance Building, which also includes a baby changing table. In addition, we have a number of wheelchairs available. These so-called 'HandyCar(e)s' are located next to the Entrance Building and can be used for free.

Accessible parking
Designated disabled parking spaces are available right in front of the main entrance at Budapestlaan 17. Holders of a European disabled parking card or a municipal disabled parking permit from Utrecht may park in these spaces free of charge. Please display the card visibly behind the windshield.
Access and exit
Wheelchair users can enter the Gardens through the automatic gate next to the Entrance Building at the main entrance. Our reception staff can open this for you. When leaving the Gardens, press the large red button on the other side of the gate and it will open automatically.
Wheelchairs for loan
Free wheelchairs (Handy-Car(e)) are available at the entrance. Please ask our staff in the Entrance Building, we’re happy to assist. Please note: reservations for wheelchairs are not possible.
Supervisors and service dogs
Assistance dogs are welcome. Persons accompanying persons in wheelchairs who are not self reliant have free access. Persons accompanying persons who have companion passes also have free access.
Discovery garden
The Discovery garden features raised plant beds, allowing wheelchair users to view the plants more easily. A tactile edge runs along the paths, detectable by white cane users. The contrast between the light shell paths and the dark tactile edges also makes the routes more visible for visitors with a visual impairment.
Feedback and questions
Accessibility is an important theme for the Botanic Gardens. Our mission is for every visitor to discover something new and special about the world of plants. We are always looking to learn from our visitors to make the Gardens even more accessible. Do you have a question or suggestion? Feel free to email us at botanische.tuinen@uu.nl.
