Your university has its 390th anniversary
In 2026, Utrecht University will celebrate its 390th anniversary. A special anniversary we would like to celebrate together with you. As a UU alum, you are and will remain a part of our rich academic tradition. Especially in this lustrum year, we want to mark that: with meetings, conversations and initiatives which show what we have built together and where we want to go towards together.
Connect. Create Change.
With this lustrum theme, we not only mean the sharing of academic knowledge, but also meeting people from various backgrounds, ages and experiences. Much is happening within and outside the university. Exactly the sum of all these perspectives makes the difference.
Utrecht University is not a closed community, but actively seeks collaboration with the city, the region and society as a whole. Because we know: we need each other to get ahead.
Instead of large-scale celebrations, we choose a substantial approach for this lustrum: we celebrate what is already happening and give that an additional platform. For instance, we collaborate with UMC Utrecht to put the spotlight on projects, which are already making valuable contributions to the world around us. Sometimes small scale, always hopeful and with direct involvement of students, researchers, healthcare professionals AND residents of the city and region.
Our alumni make the difference in society — and we therefore love to celebrate that with them.
To you as an alum
We ask Lustrum Director Marieke van Merriënboer what is scheduled for the Utrecht alumni. Marieke says: “There are all kinds of things to do. There are various public activities which are also very interesting for alumni, such as dialogues, guided tours and lectures. Besides all of that, the Utrecht University Fund organises a festive 1636 dinner with a knowing wink to love for science and the Sharing Days of the Alumni Office receive an additional festive tone. We happily invite you to be there.”
