In the programme Economics and Business Economics you take a broad view of challenging economic issues: the real-world perspective. What are the needs and objectives of people and organisations in our complex society? What choices do they make in order to fulfil those needs and achieve those objectives? To find answers to these questions, we analyse economic issues using insights drawn from other fields such as Geography, Law, Social Sciences and Applied Data Science. You have the opportunity to design your own personal study programme as 50 percent of BSc Economics and Business Economics is made up of optional components. This results in a unique professional profile tailored to your wishes and interests.

Have you always wanted to know more about digital media, data, film, television, theatre and dance performances and games? Then the Media and Culture programme might be a good match for you! Media shape the world and our understanding of that world. During this programme, you study media in a broader context and in relation to each other. You will learn about history, theory and larger social and technological contexts in which media function and interact. You will also develop academic skills, such as doing research. 

How do we distinguish literary texts from non-literary ones? What role does literature play in society, and what role did it use to play? Students taking Utrecht University’s Bachelor programme in Literary Studies will take a comparative look at literature of all eras, ranging from antiquity to the present time, focusing both on literature in itself and on its relation to other art forms and types of media. This programme takes in everything from epic poems to novels, and from novels to fan fiction. 

The classical model of Liberal Arts and Sciences is the core of our educational system. You learn to think critically and to employ multiple perspectives by studying different subjects from the Humanities, Social Sciences and Science. At University College Utrecht, you learn to grapple with complicated issues that matter in today’s world. 

While studying the Dutch bachelor Philosophy, you will be introduced to the most important philosophers and their ideas from the past 2,500 years. The emphasis is on text comprehension and logical reasoning, and you also learn to debate, read critically and write carefully. We think about concepts such as good and evil, truth and beauty. But make no mistake: philosophy is not an unworldly activity. It is always about reflecting on values, politics, art and science as we know them in our contemporary society.

How do you ensure equity in education, and diversity in the workplace? And how do you organise safety without compromising the rights of individuals too much? These kinds of themes are important topics for various organisations, such as in healthcare, education and government. This involves different groups, each with their own interests. In the Bachelor of Governance, fully taught in Dutch, you will tackle these issues and learn to use insights from different disciplines and perspectives. The programme is small-scale, practice-oriented and deals with current social and political developments.
