Extracurricular opportunities

If you seek stimulating challenges on top of the regular MBLS curriculum, you can participate in our honours programme.

Honouring your curiosity

Utrecht University offers several honours programmes for students looking for an extra avenue to explore their curiosity and foster their personal development. Honours education is followed on top of your regular Bachelor’s programme. Both faculty-specific and university-wide honours programmes are offered.

Faculty honours programmes

Faculty-specific honours programmes offer more depth to your learned subject matter. Here, you’ll have more time to focus on personal and professional development opportunities within your field. Information about faculty honours programmes can be found on this page.

Honours programme

This programme (45 EC, of which 15 EC on top of your regular schedule) will give you:

  • the opportunity to deepen or broaden your knowledge
  • to acquaint yourself with research at an early stage of your studies
  • the chance to explore across the borders of your discipline
  • an international experience

Activities could be working with a master student in a lab, organising symposia and guest lectures, a company excursion in the Netherlands or abroad, and many more interesting projects.

All the students of the Science Faculty honours programmes are part of the Science Honours Academy where they work together on a wide range of activities within an interdisciplinary component.

University-wide honours programmes

In these interdisciplinary programmes, you can let your diverse interests run wild as you work on varying social and academic issues together with students from other disciplines. By analysing issues from different perspectives, you’ll learn how to navigate complex societal issues through a broader lens. In an increasingly interconnected world, learning how to work with people from different fields is a vital skill. After completing these honours programmes you will receive an honours certificate during a festive ceremony. The following programmes are offered:
