Comparable programmes

Many students think they already know English. Not you. You know that there is still a lot to learn. And studying English also means investigating how the language actually works, and how people learn it and use the different varieties. In the English Language and Culture programme, you explore literature and culture in the English-speaking world in depth. Not a day will go by without you learning a new English word. One of the ways you learn the language is by reading great authors  ̶  not just by studying grammar. You study the influences of social and political developments. This fusion of language, literature and culture does not make learning English easier, but it does make it considerably more interesting. 

Why should we be concerned with the past? After all, aren't we living in the here and now? In the History programme you will learn that historical studies are not just about the past, but are also about the present: you will use your historical knowledge to understand contemporary events. You will study history based on all kinds of sources: from original letters to coins and inscriptions and from diplomatic treaties to propaganda images. You will collect and evaluate evidence, which you will then analyse and interpret. These are highly transferable skills.

Then the study programme Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) might be a good match for you! To solve the biggest issues facing our world, we need experts who are able to look at social issues from different perspectives. This study considers political and economic issues from four different perspectives: philosophy, politics, economics and history.
