With ‘Meet the Professor’, Utrecht University makes a connection with Utrecht’s’ primary school children. In the light of the lustrum theme ‘Create, Connect & Celebrate’, UU-professors will cycle to primary schools. There they will tell the children about their work and the research of Utrecht University.
What is a professor doing all day long? Is a professor always a man? And why does a professor think it is important to do research? By telling their stories on the primary schools of Utrecht, the professors make a new generation ‘Bright minds, better future’ conscious about research, the sciences and the Utrecht University.
The day starts in the Aula of the Academiegebouw. During this kick-off meeting there will be several speeches, amongst others by the Rector Magnificus Bert van der Zwaan, and José van Dijck, chair of the KNAW. After this meeting the professors will leave to the schools.
After ‘Meet the professor’, the collaboration between the Utrecht University and primary schools continues. Schools can participate in structural activities of the Wetenschapsknooppunt Utrecht. This science hub for primary education, teacher educators and the University offers support in the professionalization of teachers and the early participation of children in science and recent research.
