As a small-scale, intensive programme, the PPE programme is designed for ambitious students. The relatively low intake of only 75 students a year means that you will get to know your fellow students and your lecturers very well. To facilitate the building of a community, all classes and educational activities are centred at a dedicated location for PPE students and staff, in the historic Descartes building at the International Campus Utrecht. PPE is more intensive than other programmes at Utrecht University, totalling 16 class hours a week – 33% more than the university’s regular Bachelor’s programmes. Also, self-study assignments are generally more challenging than those in the regular Bachelor’s programmes.
In addition to taught courses, the programme includes various extracurricular activities. PPE’s curricular and extracurricular activities are strongly connected, with the extracurricular programme encouraging you to deepen your knowledge and sharpen key personal and professional skills – more so than in other Bachelor's programmes. You will do this by working on independent projects, organising and attending events with fellow students (from Model United Nations to film nights and the end-of-the-year BBQ) and engaging with the world beyond academia by connecting with professionals at public and private institutions.
Do you want an extra challenge? For Dutch students, we offer an honours programme.
