Workshop ‘Podcasting in Science’
Podcasts are becoming increasingly popular. A broader range of these digital audio recordings are freely available on various podcast apps, such as Itunes or Spotify. The Economist, True Crime or the Dutch podcast De Brand in het Landhuis are just a few examples of successful podcasts to which listeners tune into on the train or at home on Sunday with a cup of coffee.
Podcasts have also started to pop up in academia, and are being embraced by many universities around the world. Their potential is increasingly explored as a means to discuss innovative research amongst scholars themselves and to make results more accessible to a broader audience.
But, if one considers starting a podcast, challenging questions pop up. Why would you start a podcast? What could be the benefits for a scholar in academia? How do you start? What are obstacles in terms of time, financial and technical aspects? Based on first-hand experiences by three producers of (legal) podcasts, this workshop aims to provide attendees with answers to these and other questions they might have about podcasting in science.
