About Mpanzu Bamenga

Mpanzu Bamenga is, amongst other, coordinator & co-founder of Incleaders, the Inclusion Leaders Network, and coordinator of the Supervisory Group for Undocumented Migrants in Amsterdam.

He was born in Kinshasa (in then Zaire, currently Democatic Republic of Congo) and fled to the Netherlands in 1994 with his family. He lived as an undocumented refugee for thirteen years. Bamenga was studying immigration law when his family’s deportation hearing was scheduled and sent a letter to the government that resulted in an exception from deportation. After receiving his status in the Netherlands, he immediately dedicated his life to helping other refugees and marginalized people. Bamenga is the driving force behind the Inclusion Leaders Network (INCLEADERS), an organization that provides opportunities for information sharing, leadership development, and networking opportunities for emerging and established leaders.

As a lawyer, diplomat, activist, and public representative, Mpanzu Bamenga is promoting human rights, diversity, inclusion, and opportunities for refugees and migrants. Bamenga, together with others, sued the Dutch state in 2020 for ethnic profiling. He was awarded, by the Dutch National Human Rights Institute (College voor de Rechten van de Mens), the prize of  Human Rights Person of the Year 2021 for his contribution to the fight against racism.

“I have a dream of a just, inclusive and sustainable world, where is doesn't matter who you are, where you from, what your skin color, religion, nationality and sexual orientation is. We all enjoy human rights and are entitle to equall opportunities. Such a dream can only be realised by Us, bearers of fundamental rights and values: dignity, freedom, equality and solidarity. Respecting these rights and values should be the basis of all human actions. But in today’s world we are engaged in a great war against evils such as violence, deprivation of human rights and diginity, racism, discrimination, misinformation, poverty, pollution and climate change, that all undermine our democracy, liberty and humanity. Let us not accept this reality or escape from our responsibility, but let us dedicate ourselves to be an agent of change, to reach for the better and to inspire our generation and the next to achieve meaningful acts that will make our world just, inclusive and sustainable.”
