375 years of Utrecht University

In 2011, Utrecht University will celebrate the 375th anniversary of its founding. The celebrations will kick off with the Dies Natalis Ceremony on 25 March 2011, followed by a wide range of activities and culminating in De Uithof campus’ take on Festival deBeschaving, which combines popular culture, theatre, art and science.

The year 2011 also marks the 50th anniversary of Utrecht University’s De Uithof campus, the celebration of which will feature, for instance, a special De Uithof edition of the monthly arts and culture series Cultural Sundays (Culturele Zondagen) and a week-long series of events and activities, presented under the header ‘De Uithof Goes Mad’ (De Uithof draait door). This site will also present information about the De Uithof anniversary celebrations.

‘Knowledge for the Future’ is the theme of this year’s anniversary celebrations. After all, this is precisely what Utrecht University does. It develops knowledge for future generations and the science of tomorrow. During the celebration of the anniversary of its founding, Utrecht University aims to emphasise the importance of collaboration with cities and regions, a concrete example of which is the development of Utrecht Science Park.
