China Scholarship Council – Utrecht University (CSC-UU) PhD-programme

The China Scholarship Council – Utrecht University PhD Scholarship Programme yearly offers PhD candidates from China the opportunity to start a PhD programme at Utrecht University on a 4 year scholarschip. Upon completing the PhD candidates will receive a Utrecht University PhD degree. Selection for this programme is undertaken by Utrecht University and by the China Scholarship Council, respectively. CSC deadline: 20 March to 5 April 2013.

Cooperation with Chinese University of Hong Kong

Utrecht University has signed two bilateral agreements with the Chinese University of Hong Kong to strengthen the cooperation in the Utrecht University strategic themes: Sustainability, Life Sciences, Institutions, and Youth and Identity and in the CUHK Focused Areas of Research: Chinese Studies, Biomedical Sciences, Information Sciences, Economics and Finance, and Geoinformation and Earth Sciences. The agreements will encourage staff and PhD exchange between the two partners.

Netherlands-Asia Honours Summer School

In 2012 Utrecht University together with Delft University of Technology, AkzoNobel and McKinsey&Company launched the Netherlands-Asia Honours Summer School (NAHSS). This triple helix programme is funded and organised by a unique public-private partnership between all 13 Dutch research universities, 16 Dutch companies and 4 government ministries. The partners acknowledge Asia’s increasing importance and the urgency to introduce the younger Dutch generation to the dynamics of Asia and the opportunities that the continent presents to the Netherlands. NAHSS offers excellent students from all Dutch research universities the opportunity to attend a summer school in Asia and to experience Asia’s society, culture, academia and business.

A Utrecht University delegation visited Singapore, Hong Kong and Beijing in May 2012. During the visit existing cooperation was strengthened and new contacts were established in research and education in two of the four Utrecht University strategic themes: Institutions and Youth & Identity. In addition the partnership with the Chinese University of Hong Kong within the Netherlands-Asia Honours Summer School was intensified and a joint PhD programme in Econmic and Social History was launched with the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
