Growth and Differentation
Unravelling molecular processes governing the creation, differentiation, proliferation and death of cells is vital for understanding their normal development and disease. In our focus area, experts in genomics, oncology and cell biology concentrate their research on the biology of tissue-specific stem cells, pluripotent embryonic stem cells, and cancer cells. This is achieved through an integrated approach from molecules to cells and from fundamental biology to clinical practice in both animals and human patients.
Through the unique combined expertise and advanced technologies of the Hubrecht Institute, the faculty of Veterinary Medicine and the UMC Utrecht, we hope to find cures for currently incurable diseases. We aim to develop new strategies to treat cancer, to repair tissues severely damaged due to chronic diseases (regenerative medicine) and to solve problems of fertility in human patients as well as in animals.
