Gender Studies

Gender studies, women’s studies, or feminist studies investigate the way gender, ethnicity, and sexuality are constructed in popular culture, in art and literature and in new media. This minor offers the chance to learn about feminist movements, both contemporary and historical, and about the impact of gender and ethnicity in society. Students learn about the basic concepts used in research in gender studies in the arts.

The minor suits students with an interest in gendered, ethnicized and sexualized power relations in society, and their effects on daily life, academic knowledge production, and cultural practices.

The minor Gender Studies can contribute to the requirements (30 ECTS) of the master Comparative Women’s Studies in Culture and Politics.

N.B.: Some of the electives are in Dutch. Gender, ethnicity and culture criticism is in Dutch in block 1.
