"ICT Entrepreneurship cleared the way for me to start the business and keep studying"

Wilco van Duinkerken, Graduate Business Informatics

I started my own business as early as I could.  People around me say I have entrepreneurial blood!  In fact in 2004, when I’d almost finished my Bachelor in Information Sciences at Utrecht University, I’d come up with the idea for SoundCream, which marketed music online in a new way.  I was about to quit school and start the business but my professor Sjaak Brinkkemper had another option: to continue studying in ICT Entrepreneurship course and the Master programme Business Informatics. In this course you start a real or virtual business and get one semester of guidance from the University to create your business plan. Students have access to Netherware, a software start-up incubator, and given office space as well as coaching and advice, which was a real help for me. ICT Entrepreneurship cleared the way for me to start the business and keep studying. SoundCream was sold in 2006 and I’ve started a new website development business, Sparkboxx, to help finance my studies while I finish my Master’s thesis.  I really appreciate the flexibility offered within the Master programme Business Informatics.
