UBU-link: the link between database and journal article
Utrecht University Library offers access to a large number of bibliographic databases in which to search for literature references. Using these references, you can track down literature, either in the Utrecht University electronic and/or print collections, or in collections outside Utrecht University via the Dutch Central Catalogue.
UBU-link makes it easier for you to track down literature by linking directly from the databases to the Utrecht University Library collections. If Utrecht University has an electronic subscription to the journal, you can have the full text article on your screen without much further ado. And if the electronic journal article is not available, UBU-link will refer you to other databases.
If you click on the button
next to a literature reference you will be offered the following options:
1. The publication itself
UBU-link will show you all possibilities to obtain the article you are looking for. The best option is listed on top:
-
The article itself: if Utrecht University has an electronic subscription to the journal, click on Full text available and the article will appear on your screen. In some databases, you will even find the link to the PDF of the full text next to the UBU-link button. If the full text version is not available, you may choose from the following options:
-
the Utrecht University Library catalogue: provides an automatic search in the catalogue for the book or journal in which the article is published. Under Availability you will see if and where you can find the print version of the publication.
-
Picarta: provides an automatic search in the Picarta journals database and in the Dutch Central Catalogue for the journal or book you are looking for. You can then order a copy of the article (or borrow the book) via Interlibrary Loan (ILL).
Sometimes, through various reasons, we can’t find a paper or online version, while we do actually have it available. This means that we advise you to look in the Catalogue or Omega yourself.
2. More information
- Amazon internet bookstore: searching for books of which you can request the reviews.
- Reviews, tables of contents and summaries of books: via Syndetics.
- Web of Science: automatic search for more literature by the same author. You can find out the author’s e-mail address or work address, search for more recent scientific publications which refer to the article in question via cited author, or evaluate the scientific quality of the article via Journal Citation Reports.
- Journal Citation Reports: find the impact factor of the journal
