Social Sciences Testing Materials Library

The Testing Materials Library houses the psychological testing materials collection of Utrecht University’s Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS).
Borrowing and consulting from this collection is only possible for staff and students of the disciplines Psychology and Pedagogics of the faculty.

Requesting via the catalogue and borrowing


Testing materials can be borrowed or consulted only after requesting via the catalogue, and can be collected at the service desk of the University Library Uithof.

Searching for tests in the catalogue
Tests can be found in the catalogue in the following ways:
  • search alphabetically (Title begins with ...), by the title or the abbreviation of the title, or,
  • search in All Fields by words on claim indicators or scale subjects, or by combining title words, authors etc., for instance
    intelligen* child*
    Then select the testing materials from the list of results by clicking on the Refine button and adding
    test* OR kit
    (test* as an abbreviation of testing materials, or kit as a term that indicates that tests are made up of various components).
How long will it take?
From Monday till Friday:
  • requested before 9 a.m.: available at 11 a.m.
  • requested before 11 a.m.: available at 1 p.m.
  • requested before 1 p.m.: available at 3 p.m.
  • requested before 3 p.m.: available at 5 p.m.

Availability of testing materials with regard to faculty courses


For courses within the Faculty of Social Sciences, sometimes a number of testing materials may not be available for a longer period (especially in the months September through November, and January/February through April). Reservations for these courses will be given priority above regular requests, but will not always be visible in the catalogue. 

Sale of test forms


Many tests contain questionnaires, reply forms and score forms. These forms are for sale for staff and students of the Departments of Psychology and Pedagogical Sciences of the Faculty of Social and Behaviourial Sciences at the Central Desk of the University Library Uithof.

Staff of the Departments of Psychology, Pedagogical Sciences and the Faculty's Ambulatorium can order tests from the publisher via the Testing Materials Library.

Information sources for testing materials

  • COTAN Test Documentation: descriptions and evaluations of psychodiagnostic testing materials by the Dutch Committee on Tests and Testing Affairs (COTAN) of the Dutch Association of Psychologists (Nederlands Instituut van Psychologen, NIP).
    • Previously, this information was published in printed form:
      Documentatie van tests en testresearch in Nederland / A.Evers, J.C. van Vliet-Mulder, C.J. Groot – Assen, Van Gorcum, 2000. -7th completely revised edition – 2 vols., with loose-leaf supplements.  
      You will find these volumes at the 1st and 3rd floor of the University Library Uithof (check the catalogue).
  • Test & Test-research, the site for analysis and development of tests by P.J. Tellegen (University of Groningen) and J.A. Laros (Brasilia University, Brasil)
  • HaPI (Health and Psychosocial Instruments): information on measurement instruments in the health fields, psychosocial sciences, organizational behavior, and library and information science
  • Meetinstrumenten, a survey of psychological mesurement instruments (in Dutch only) from the Tijdschrift voor Psychiatrie
  • Database of Measure Instruments and Guidelines (Databank Meetinstrumenten en Richtlijnen; in Dutch only) of the Netherlands Youth Institute: 200 descriptions of tests, questionnaires, observation instruments and the like for young people
  • Some reference works in the social sciences reference collection (S-REF: F30 en F31) at the 3rd floor.
