Study places
Check the digital map for a free computer. There are 500 study places, more than half of which provided with computers, and there are 22 individual study rooms (mezzanine, third and sixth floor). You will find a silence zone on the fourth floor.
Group study rooms
You do not need to reserve these rooms. In each room, you will find a computer.

- 6th floor, Theology and Philosophy, room 6.1 (especially for the disabled)

How to log in
- Utrecht University staff and students log in with their Solis ID and password.
- All other visitors apply for a login code and password via our self-service registration system (available on the catalogue computers in the library). Proof of identity required.
Logging off
Do not forget to log off at the end of your session to prevent misuse of the computers. Please note: when you leave the computer unattended for a period of 30 minutes, you will be automatically logged off and the computer will be available for other users.
Please note: in the Library of the University for Humanistics you will be automatically logged off after a 60-minute period.
Searching without logging in
On the standing desks you will find computers where you can search catalogues without having to log in. You cannot work on these computers and there are no printing facilities.
How to save or exchange files
- Via the U-disk (for Utrecht University staff and students). After having logged in, every Utrecht University student has a U-disk of 50 MB at their disposal.
- By sending an e-mail to yourself.
- Via the temp-directory. Please note: this directory will be erased at the end of each day.
- By using a USB stick (or memory stick). At the Central Desk 32MB memory sticks are sold.
- By using a diskette. You can borrow a portable diskette drive at the Central Desk.
Photocopiers and printers
There are 5 print & copy rooms, with a total of 8 so-called follow-me printers. The machines can be used for both printing and photocopying. If you give a print job from your computer, you may either select zwart-wit follow-me or kleur follow-me. Next you can go to any printer in the building to pick up your print-outs.
You must pay with your chip card or prepaid chip card. The first time the PayCube (the pay machine) will ask you to link your chip card to your Solis ID or library card number.
You will find manuals in each copy room.
Your print job will be deleted after one day.
There are no printing facilities from laptops.

The follow-me printers are on the:
1st floor, room 122, 3 machines including a colour printer/copier
2nd floor,room 247, 2 machines
4th floor, room 411, 1 machine
6th floor, room 609, 1 machine
6th floor room 638, 1 machine (near Special Collections)
You can find a chip card add-value machine on the first floor near the lockers opposite the reception desk. There you will also find a vending machine for prepaid cards.
Microfiche and microfilm readers
In room 123 on the first floor you can find a microfiche and microfilm reader and scanner.
