Submitting a publication

The Igitur Archive (the digital archive containing the publications of Utrecht scientists) is a free service of the Utrecht University Library. The Igitur Archive is the largest digital archive (repository) in Holland and is one of the largest in Europe. For more information about the archive, please see the page: Why archive documents with Igitur.

Utrecht University strives to collect, save and provide access to all Utrecht publications via the Igitur Archive. This provides many benefits for our university, as well as for the scientists themselves.

The scientific output of the Utrecht University, doctoral theses inclusive,  is collected in one place and is preserved in a sustainable and safe manner.

You may submit your publication (article, research report, etc.) to the Igitur Archive via Metis, the research information- and registration system of Utrecht University.

At the moment that your faculty requests that you submit your details to the university for the scientific yearly report, you may immediately submit the full-text documents as well. This way, you only have to submit the bibliographic information once. More information about the use of Metis is available via your faculty’s Metis manager. Click here for their contact details. They can inform you of any agreements that are in place between the library and your faculty regarding the delivery of full-text documents to the Igitur Archive.

We often receive the question (with regard to copyrights) if an article that has been published in a journal by a commercial publisher, or may be published at a later date, can be submitted to the Igitur Archive. An increasing number of publishers are agreeing to the inclusion of research results in an archive (institutional repository) such as the Igitur Archive. More information regarding the various aspects of copyrights is available on our copyright page. In addition: articles published before 1997 do not require the publisher’s permission and may always be submitted.

If there is a reason why you cannot or do not want to submit your publications via METIS, download the attached instructions and follow the directions to submit your publications directly to the Igitur Archive. for questions regarding the guidelines, please contact: bibliotheek@uu.nl
The majority of the files in the Igitur Archive are in Portable Document Format (.pdf). Other file types are also accepted. A list of the 2008 guaranteed accepted file formats is available (PDF).

Doctoral and student theses are submitted using a different process. To find out more about the submission of theses go to: Submit a doctoral thesis or Submit a student thesis.
