Global impact
Financial scandals. Child labour. Environmental damage and pollution. The global credit crunch. These are very different, but they all show one thing – the impact individual companies can have upon international trade. Globalisation has made it clear that individual countries don’t have the legal power to control large companies, while a single case of corporate failure can shake the world. Good corporate governance, corporate social responsibility and compliance with international standards are therefore vital, both for individual businesses, and for the world as a whole.
In-depth training
The LLM in International Business Law and Globalisation provides in-depth training in business law within a framework of corporate social responsibility. Under the guidance of leading academics, many of whom also work as corporate lawyers, you cover subjects as varied as international investment law, mergers and acquisitions and international arbitration. You also have the opportunity to examine current political and legal issues concerning economic development, investigate ethical business standards, and learn how to transform theoretical knowledge of corporate social responsibility into daily legal reality. This specialised programme attracts students from around the world, giving you the opportunity to discuss issues of international importance in a truly cosmopolitan setting.
New opportunities
Utrecht – often dubbed the ‘gateway to Europe’ – is the ideal location in which to study international business law. The Netherlands is home to some of the world’s leading trading companies, financial institutions and law firms.
