Master's programmes

Stochastics and Financial Mathematics

Please note: From September 2011 this Master's programme will be integrated in the programme Mathematical Sciences

In stochastics we study phenomena in which ‘chance’ plays a role, such as the price of a stock in a financial market, interactions of molecules in a living cell, the evolution of a physical system, et cetera. The mathematical level of the probability theory and statistics that is relevant in realistic applications is typically high, especially in financial mathematics.

The aim of the Master's programme in Stochastics and Financial Mathematics is to provide a deep theoretical and practical background in order to produce experts who can play a role at the highest level, both from the practical and theoretical point of view. Throughout the programme, the emphasis is on the development of the necessary mathematical theory, which forms the universal background for a variety of applications.

This Master’s programme has brought together stochastics experts from four Dutch universities. Together, they help create a programme of the highest quality.
