This international Master’s programme teaches you the fundamental principles of neuroscience and trains you to perform neuroscience research as part of a multidisciplinary team. You may choose from one of two programme tracks:
- Experimental and Clinical Neuroscience
- Cognitive Neuroscience
The neurosciences comprise a vast multidisciplinary field of research aimed at understanding normal and pathological brain function. This multidisciplinary character makes the neuroscience field quite interesting and challenging. In order to plan experiments, to collect, interpret and analyse data, and to better understand how the brain really functions, you need to know how to synthesise information from different disciplines. A basic function such as sight, for example, demonstrates the complexity of neuroscience. Many elements of the brain and other processes are involved when you see something familiar, including cognition (since you recognise), plasticity of neurons (since you remember), signal transduction (what you see has to be ‘translated’) and behaviour (you act because of what you see).
A Master’s degree in Neuroscience and Cognition offers you many career opportunities. Graduates continue on to universities and research institutes, teaching hospitals, the pharmaceutical industry, and the science, industry and healthcare sectors where they hold policy and management
positions.
